Quick Thoughts:
Last season, the Hawks were the third best team in the East until Al Horford went down with a shoulder injury on December 26th. Afterwards, they went 22-31 and backed into the East's eighth seed. Even though they gave Indiana a lot of trouble in the first round, they weren't a very good team without Horford, and haven't been for the last several years. In four of the last five seasons, Atlanta has a negative point differential when he's not playing, and a positive one when he is. With a healthy Horford, and a coach who seems to maximize the talent on his roster, the Hawks should return to being one of the better teams in the East.

Player to Watch: DeMarre Carroll
Carroll has always had a reputation as a defense-first wing, which made him a natural fit next to Kyle Korver. Last season though, he added a three point shot to his game, shooting 39% on 268 attempts, turning him into a valuable "3 and D" wing. But Carroll does some other things well, like rebounding and finishing near the basket, which is why he should remain a starter even though the Hawks added Thabo Sefolosha this offseason.

Next up, the Charlotte Hornets
