I'm not sure if you stayed up to watch the entire Bulls game tonight. If you did, you were rewarded with not only a great comeback, but an incredible display of will and guts.
On the second night of a back-to-back, the Bulls looked gassed from the beginning. Derrick Rose and company expended a lot of energy just to stay close against the Lakers the night before, and when they couldn't steal the win in L.A. you wondered if they had anything left in the tank for Phoenix. It turned out they didn't, and they fell behind 36-17 in the first quarter. But they spent the next three quarters scratching and clawing their way back, eventually sending the game to double overtime before prevailing, 123-115.
This was a great win for the Bulls. They played poorly, they were tired, and they were down by 23 early on. But for them to fight back and win in double overtime shows you the kind of toughness this team has, which is exemplified by their leaders, Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. Neither had a particularly good game (I know Rose had 35 points, but he also took 33 shots), but they both made plays when it mattered and persevered through enormous fatigue. The rest of the team followed suit and continued to play hard, despite less than stellar performances out of almost everybody. You should be proud of this team Bulls fans. They showed a lot of heart tonight, as they have all season long, and Coach Thibodeau deserves a lot of credit.
It would have been a damn shame for the Bulls to walk away 0-2 from the last two games with the amount of effort they put in to each game. But by edging out the Suns tonight, they've now put themselves in position to have their first winning Circus Trip since His Airness suited up. The Bulls now sit at 8-5 after playing the toughest schedule in the entire league, a remarkable accomplishment when you consider Carlos Boozer has yet to play a game.
In other news, Miami lost again. They are 8-7 and only need to finish 65-2 to break the Bulls win record.
Happy Thanksgiving, and remember to be thankful for our beloved Chicago Bulls.
